The recent implementation of an online application process doesn't seem designed with the applicant in mind. The questions are fine and the character counts generous, but the budget pages are frustrating. Once the expense information is entered, making changes is cumbersome, and there is no way that I could find to have a record of the budget submitted. Hopefully they will fix it, but until then, best advice: 1) make a spreadsheet using their spending categories for your budget planner and for your records; and 2) allow yourself plenty of time to enter the information since each year of a multiyear request must be entered separately, and there is also a box to justify each expense.

This may not be the case, but it feels like the application portal was designed to present information in the format desired by the foundation's program staff with little consideration for the people using the portal to apply for grants.
Their funding is clearly focused on their historic interests and the staff is very knowledgeable.
