Loosen up the process a bit--sometimes the "rules" can become so restrictive that they seem to exist for no other reason than they just do. Realize that many small non-profits are incredibly short on time and staff power, and adjust the application process accordingly.
Pay close attention to what else they've funded, and get in touch well before applying to see if your needs fit their funding priorities. They are no-nonsense people, and won't tolerate a sloppy or informal approach.
They are one of the most well-organized foundations I've ever dealt with. They run like clockwork.
