Pierce focused its giving on organizations that serve the homeless community. Foundation staff are responsive and give honest assessments of its giving plans. This funder is respectful of its grantees and invites proposals from organizations that it expects to fund, and you can count on the level they say they're considering.

Pierce is a wonderful foundation and has been for years. Their staff are legitimate big thinkers in the philanthropic industry. Unfortunately their funding is drawing to a close. We'll all miss the work they did.

While our budget has been cut back in recent years, it is not true that our funding is drawing to a close at this time.

PFF has a well-earned reputation as being a grantee-friendly foundation that cares about capacity building and really understands nonprofits and their needs. And they often volunteer additional support or resources to help us accomplish our mission. I hold them up as the model funder!

They do not fund a large number of organizations since they fund for 5 years at a time and make a significant investment in grantees. This means they are not looking for new grantees very often and you need to be introduced to the foundation by someone known to them.

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Gives more than money, Risk taker, Culturally sensitive, Insightful, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues, Openminded
