Pierce is a wonderful foundation and has been for years. Their staff are legitimate big thinkers in the philanthropic industry. Unfortunately their funding is drawing to a close. We'll all miss the work they did.

They're very accessible to their grantees, but they're spending off the very last of their money, so don't bother with an application unless they contact you directly.

Extremely successful. Mr. Pierce created the foundation for a good purpose, and hired excellent staff to spend his money well. They did it and they left an undeniable imprint in combating foreclosures in Chicago.
Pat yourself on the back. You actually made a difference.
They're all done, don't apply.
They set a goal about a decade ago to do one thing - fight foreclosures, and they did it really well. When they were really flush with cash they invested great money into the infrastructures of important nonprofits because they knew their foundation wouldn't be around forever, but their grantees could be.

While our budget has been cut back in recent years, it is not true that our funding is drawing to a close at this time.

The Pierce Family Foundation focus is on homelessness, but they understand that this issues is multi-faceted and not a quick fix. They are willing to think outside of the box and fund programs that serve vulnerable populations ultimately helping to resolve issues that lead to homelessness.
Thank you for understanding that unrestricted funds are essential for non-profits to continue to move their mission forward.
The Pierce Family Foundation communicates well and is very organized. They send information in a timely manner and are thorough with the application process and information requested.

The Pierce Foundation is one of the key players on the nonprofit funder scene in Chicago, so do your homework before calling them. They are loyal and dedicated to their grantees--and provide an entire 'basket' of 'perks' unheard of with other grantors.
