Reviewer 224 - Grant Applicant - applied in 2017
We did meet with the staff and attended a workshop on how to apply for a grant. The person we met with sounded very positive about our organization and the odds of us receiving a grant looked favorable. Both times we applied, we were told our outreach was not large enough and was too specialized to receive a grant- we should reach out to smaller foundations. When seeing the rewarded grant lists, it became apparent that other small and specialized nonprofits were considered worthy to receive funding for their bereavement services that were not as far reaching as ours.

It seems that one must have an "in" with a board member or have some political association to be seriously considered for a grant from this foundation
Consider the smaller nonprofits- they have the greatest need for help. Maybe a grant specifically for the lesser known or younger nonprofits- to jumpstart their work.
If you are an established nonprofit with a large budget, you will be taken more seriously.
They have many events to get the word out about their organization
