Field is a philanthropic leader in Chicago, one of the few major funders to be explicit about targeting orgs that are led by POC and in divested areas of the city. The program officer there is very willing to make time to talk. My organization has been funded by Field in the past, but not since they've adjusted their funding priorities in 2017 (for reference, we are a white-led organization located in a gentrifying part of Chicago).
There is an LOI process before a full proposal. The LOI is relatively straightforward, all through an online portal. It's a 20,000 character maximum. The program officer is often open to reviewing proposals two weeks in advance and offering feedback.
