Have a much larger discretionary fund available to staff for mid-year distribution. The twists and turns of government and philanthropic giving require many non-profits to have a reserve larger than they can feasibly accomplish.
UWGMWC is a responsible risk-taker that is keen on making lasting differences in our communities. They do not shy away from controversy and bring their community partners along. Because they fund a wide array of causes, not all grantees are on the same side of issues. UWGMCW will still get you to similar tables to have discussions on what really matters.

This is a funder who wants to be the leader, tell ofther peoplemwhat to do, and take all the credit for it. It can be a very generous source of funding, but there are major strings attached. Be aware also that instead of simply funding the work they want to see done, there are more and more occassions in which they are stepping into direct service and so going in competition with the agencies they had funded.

Some of the people in the United Way are approachable. Others have an MOU of never answering of returning a phone call. Total arrogance on their part.

The federated campaign is producing less and less for the community fund so the impact of their givinis decreasing.
Stop bragging about things you have not done. Teen pregnancy decreased because of the girls themselves, number one, and the agencies who worked with them. You funded them, and that’s great, but please do not say you reduced teen pregnancy.
As someone told me, they are a United Way. They have “bully” ingrained in their dna. be careful.
