The Colorado Springs Health Foundation requires that interested organizations call them before applying. They are extremely responsive and transparent, and answer any questions you might have throughout the entire application process and the duration of the grant cycle.

Good
They are always reachable by phone or email and more than willing to discuss ideas and answer questions. The grants and reports are submitted through an online portal that is very easy to use. In my opinion, they are the most accessible funder that I have worked with.
Good
They are extremely involved in the local nonprofit and medical community and actively seek feedback on how they are doing to meet their goals. They regularly host workshops and trainings to help not only grantees, but nonprofit professionals in the community. They release unique RFPs that aim to resolve specific issues and address unmet needs within the community.
Overall, they are an exemplary funder and I wish that other funding entities would follow their lead. The only suggestion I can think of (which is so minor it's almost not worth mentioning) would be to increase the character limit on the report narrative. The funds they awarded enabled us to do SO much for our clients and it was difficult to express the impacts we made with only so many characters allowed.
Colorado Springs Health Foundation is forward thinking and truly focuses on addressing the needs within the community. I love that they rely on data and expect grantees to do the same - by doing so, they set a high standard for agencies and the work we do for our clients. They also offer support by hosting workshops that teach agencies best practices for collecting and using data that will improve grant proposals and reports.

I wish they'd be more open to addressing more of the social determinants of health in addition to health itself.
