Make sure your request is specific. While they don't expressly prohibit requests for general operating funds or salaries, the only time we've ever been denied a grant from them in four years is the one time that I requested general funding for salaries. Whenever my request has been program specific, I've had success. Also, our programs have been collaborations with other organizations and I think they especially like seeing collaboration.

Especially once you have an established relationship with an organization, please consider general operating funding. While we strive to make our programs stronger all the time, there is only so much we can grow and we still need funding to operate what we already have, as opposed to new programs.
They fund generously (for us) and at the requested level. They are also likely to fund more than once, although it is not a given.
