All of the staff at SV2 is amazing. But I'm not certain that you can approach them to request funding. They are a social venture philanthropy organization, and the partners make decisions about who to invite for funding.

They not only fund you, but they offer help from partners on an issue that you select. For us, we got amazing support from a partner on developing messaging for a key sector that we are seeking to engage.

SV2 selected us as a lightning round grantee, where we were invited to compete and made a presentation, but really had little paperwork or prep time required. They determined the funding amount.
Well two things actually... I think the engagement piece is particularly helpful and different. I also think that their grant process is great-- they do the research before they invite you, and it makes it so much easier for the nonprofits.

SV2 runs a very thoughtful process. Your organization must be recommended by another funder and if selected for the next round, the original funder shares their due diligence on your organization - such a time-saver! All I needed to do to apply was submit a few pieces of supplementary information and answer some key questions. If you are selected for the lightening round, then you present about your organization and answer questions from a group of partners. This does present a few hours of prep work but overall, the work involved was must less than the typical grant.
