The Ohrstrom Foundation only accepts applications from invited organizations, so it's best to contact the grant manager early and try to arrange a meeting with him/her or a board member to discuss your project and whether it's a good fit.
The Ohrstrom Foundation funded our work for two consecutive years (yay!) but reduced the amount the second year and then denied our application the third year. It's been difficult to get feedback on whether the tapering off of support was due to our performance, shift in our proposed work (or lack thereof), or for reasons unrelated to us. That's too bad, as we now don't know whether our latest proposal didn't pass muster or whether TOF just wasn't the best fit.
Ohrstrom isn't nearly as picky about proposal and report formatting as many funders, which we appreciate. Less time writing proposals/reports = more time doing good.

Applicants need an "in" to be considered/invited to submit a proposal, and feedback is hard to come by.
That said, the grant manager we've worked with has been prompt with communication and easy to work with. The breakdown seems to between the decision-makers and the management staff. (For example, the manager can't answer why decision-makers approved or rejected a proposal.)
Good
Provide feedback, so applicants have a better understanding of what The Ohrstrom Foundation wants to support. That should save time for applicants and OF decision-makers, as only the most likely applications would be written/read.
Requests appropriate amount of detail in proposals and reports & grant manager is easy to communicate with.
