Reviewer 1496 - Grant Applicant - applied in 2017

I have found our local representative to be accessible, responsive and helpful. The grant application process, however, is extremely cumbersome, especially considering the relatively modest size of the grants distributed. The foundation requires live signatures from the Board President and Treasurer, along with program staff, and hunting these Board members down in the middle of the summer consumed at least half a day of time and worry. Additionally, the Foundation requires that applicants use their budget forms. I understand that they want to compare apples with apples, but universal budget templates exists and are in wide circulation. Both of these requirements are considered antiquated in today's world.

Grant Applicant - applied in 2017

Make sure you give yourself ample time to complete this application as there are many hoops you need to jump through for a small grant. The application needs to be signed by three different people plus you need a letter signed by the board president, which is in the narrative but not listed as a required attachment. You are also required to include last year's budget, a detail which is buried in the application but also not listed as a required attachment. There is very little room to discuss the program/organization itself. Everything needs to be printed and two copies need to be provided in separate tabbed and labeled envelopes. Compared to most of the much bigger grants we submit, it's a lot of work for a ~$2k grant.
