Baton Rouge Area Foundation (BRAF) does not function like a typical community foundation. They are more like an economic development agencies with their own long-term projects. They barely do anything to grow or profit the nonprofit sector. They fill their coffers with major donor dollars. They never advertise their job openings and tend to hire people that have no nonprofit experience. As far as their competitive grant programs go, talk with the program officer beforehand. Even their competitive grant programs have pre-selected organizations. So be sure you're not wasting your time. It's unfortunate that we don't have a community foundation more eager to partner and support the local nonprofits.
