The Foundation runs on recommendations from the board members (as far as I can tell, members of the family) and so it's crucial to meet one of them before applying. Their application and decision process is opaque and seems out of touch with reality, at best. We have received contradictory advice on even how to apply or what for, and it seems arbitrary and constantly changing.

The family member in our region is nice and responds quickly. We had a pre-application site visit which was helpful, and he has continued to be a good resource.
Bad
This Foundation doesn't have clear priorities or guidelines online, and it shows in their conversations (which are confusing and contradictory). One of their goals is to support education initiatives in under-served communities but don't want to fund 1) new programs, 2) programs that are changing, 3) programs that offer immediate impact. The funder doesn't want to listen to the nonprofit about the situation, and instead thinks they know what the community needs, without listening to us or them.
I'd advise this foundation to look at best practices and lose the "white savior" mentality. Their processes and attitude feels archaic and potentially even harmful in that they are clearly distrustful of nonprofits to know what is needed to work with our populations.
