Looks like at long last they have ended the onerous grants process, and now will operate more as a professional foundation.

Reviewer 9034 - Grant Applicant - applied in 2017

Plan on spending quite a bit of time (more than 20 hours) completing this application. Consider whether the average amount granted ($2,500) worth it.

Cons

Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues

Grant Applicant - applied in 2016

This is among the worst grant applications I've encountered in 10+ years as a grant writer. It's petty, poorly written, and punitive. The foundation clearly cares little for nonprofits' limited resources and is uninterested in truly helping move the needle. Its application is looking to weed out applicants more than to help foster positive change. There are better ways to weed out applicants than to require this onerous of a proposal.

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Difficult to work with, Bureaucratic

As with any foundation, make sure your goals align with the Foundation's focus areas. Grants are modest, but the staff is approachable, friendly, and deeply committed to making the community better. Their grant process is a bit antiquated, requiring multiple paper copies with different info on different colored pages.

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Gives more than money, Culturally sensitive, Friendly, Builds relationships, Responsive
