If you're like me, the lack of a firm deadline is a blessing and a curse. I recommend setting an internal deadline and really sticking to it—maybe others are more disciplined than I am and this is a non-issue, but we ended up submitting WAY later than originally expected because it's easy to talk yourself into delaying!

Not requiring formal reports, but encouraging informal email updates, is amazing and I wish more funders handled reporting this way.

They fund broadly across many areas. Having a trustee engaged in your work is helpful but not necessarily essential if you can demonstrate strong community impact. We have never had a proposal funded at the requested level, so factor that into your decision-making when you set your ask amount (or into your expectations and fundraising plan as you await a response).

The foundation manager is very responsive and helpful, willing to talk about different project ideas you are considering for your proposal as well as the nitty-gritty details of what to include in your materials. We've never been successful in getting a site visit, but that hasn't stopped them from funding us.

Goals are not clearly articulated; their only guidelines relate to funding areas.
If you fund at a lower level than the amount requested, providing some sort of context for that reduction would be very helpful to grantees. Otherwise we are left wondering whether/how our application could be improved, or if it was just an extremely competitive cycle, or... ?

They like to fund projects and specifically, not the majority of the project cost. Really open to calls and conversations to clarify the ask. Supportive of helping to hone the idea. Pretty simple application process--as complicated as you want to make it. Emailed application with page limits but no painful word or character counts! :)

Program officer responds quickly to email and calls and even reached out to us for clarity! Great to see since most foundations will just respond with a rejection. We have a long history with them however, so that may have influenced this.

Their philanthropic goals aren't specific around service area, but rather around specific type of support and area of service.
Tell me what it takes to take our support to the next level.
Difficult to get "in" but if you're "in" you're going to get much more responsiveness and support.
They are open to talking about the application and they don't require a TON of detailed info.
