We have found the program staff at the Rasmuson Foundation to be extremely approachable and helpful. We have been working with them for many years and have never had a bad experience with them in all that time.

We have always had easy access to program staff and timely responses to phone calls and emails.

Being one of the few larger foundations in Alaska, the Rasmuson Foundation is inundated with funding requests. I think they are very strategic about what requests they fund, ensuring their dollars are making the greatest impact for Alaskans.
Keep up the great work!
They are a great asset to Alaska and have been a driving force in bringing new grantors to the state. They realize the potential of Alaskan non-profits and share that with other outside foundations, which has increased the number of foundations willing to grant within the state.

The Tier 1 program is a terrific option for requests up to $25K. Note, they are unlikely to fund staffing or operations.

Think the project through thoroughly. If unsure, contact one of the program officers for guidance.
This funder is committed to Alaskan nonprofits. It is a great local resource.

Form a relationship with your grant officer. Try to call occasionally and update them on what you are doing and see if any of the upcoming ideas may be a fit with their funding priorities.

They seem to be very organized.

It would be nice to have some overhead or staff time costs be allowed.

What I like about Rasmuson is they really listen to the communities they invest in and visit. When I applied for 25K from them for my agency I was a new director and I missed the deadline for the mid year report. They were very understanding and it didn't hurt our chances for future grants.

I have nothing to offer at this time.
Easy access for funds, especially for the Tier 1 funds. As long as you don't have another one open you can continue to apply and spend if your proposal is funded.

The people at Rasmuson are really easy to work with. Their website lays out their grant guidelines very clearly, and the staff I've spoken to are very direct (but with kindness) so you don't waste your time applying for a hopeless grant. Call them and ask for guidance! Even if you don't know who to call there, call the general number and they will help you connect with who you need to talk to.

Last year, they received more viable grant applications than they could fully fund. Rather than rejecting our grant or arbitrarily deciding what portion of our grant they would fund--they called me and asked what a workable solution would be for our organization. It was wonderful.
