Reviewer 3022 - Professional in the field

The staff are very helpful and contact information is transparent. Since merging the Silicon Valley office with San Francisco and an increased focus on their own programs, funding for other nonprofits can be more stringent. Before starting a relationship with United Way, be sure to know all your facts and figures because you will surely be asked.

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Risk taker, Culturally sensitive, Insightful, Friendly, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues

Grant Applicant - applied in 2010

They are very eager to find organizations to fulfill their mission with programs that they create (ex. Sparkpoint). They require a great deal of relationship maintenance, lots of turnover in employees and do not fund the full cost of programs.

Pros

Repeat funding

Cons

Uses their language, Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field
