Grant Applicant - applied in 2017
The RFP calls that are hosted are often vague. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply based on their ideas without getting a lot of feedback on what the committee will deem a successful proposal. Make sure to read every part of the application carefully as there are sometimes conflicting details and make sure to weigh the benefits of this exhaustive application against the unspecified, but very specific vision of the committee.

Program officers are available for discussion, but do not provide clarity on proposal projects. One of the program officers provides helpful guidance on what might not be compelling to the committee, but another program officer will tell applicants, even for large, complex multi-year funding, just to try and see what happens.
Please provide specific examples of what types of projects will be funded so that organizations that do not match the vision do not spend an enormous amount of time on the proposal. The RFP and the informational calls make it seem as though there are a variety of possibilities, but upon review of the granting organizations and in discussions with the program officers, it is clear that's not the case.
The foundation wants to increase access to services, but does not fund existing gaps in care which would help to stabilize organizations already doing the work.
