Definitely call the funder to discuss your ideas before applying. Read the guidelines VERY carefully.

This is a capital funder but they don’t fund overhead, which is shortsighted.
Please be more understanding that nonprofits have overhead costs.
Tread lightly. The director can be extremely rude.

They fund in very specific (and very needed!) areas, and seem open to funding new orgs. Definitely call first- director is kind and helpful. It's a long application, but worth it.

If you find that projects being funded year after year are serving more than 50% low income students, perhaps consider changing the guidelines on the website?
The guideline is minimum 50% low-income students, but I think most projects being funded have a higher percentage than that.
I LOVE that they explicitly advocate working with a trusted contractor and not just using the cheapest available bid. Shows a deep understanding of what doing construction in a childcare facility is like and commitment to quality.
