Like others have said, there is no relationship building. We were consistently funded for 6 years, and then our proposals were declined 3 years in a row. We waited a bit and are trying again.
Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Difficult to work with, Bureaucratic, Risk averse

They seem to be supporting good work but could do more if they were open to building relationships with grantees and understanding the nonprofits they support. Nonprofits can't run without quality staff and need funders to support that. It creates extra burdens on nonprofit to restrict a grant so that it doesn't go toward salaries, which is the largest expense for most organizations.
Talk to and learn from nonprofits to really make a difference. Programs can't exist without the staff who fund them. Please fund salaries.
Submitted an LOI as a lapsed grantee. It's been about 6 years since we received funding.
I like the easy LOI process.

Our agency's mission fit into their funding priorities and guidelines. We were awarded a grant and invited to respond to a special RFP six months later. So it was a positive experience but I don't think we spoke to anyone at the foundation, communication was all through email.

It's a crap-shoot. They will not answer emails, there is no phone number to call, and there is not even a name of a person associated with this foundation. And, if you're not invited to apply after doing an LOI, you will never hear back.

General email address and you get canned answer back - over and over again. No phone number, no one to call. Really poor communication, community relations. They need to clean up their act.

How would they know if they are accomplishing their goals if they never talk to grantees or prospective grantees?
Start answering emails!
Don't expect to be able to communicate with them. the info@ email address goes into the circular file.
If you are invited after an LOI, you will be given an amount to request and it almost always (always?) is awarded.

Online eligibility questionnaire, then LOI, then full app if invited.

TJX is one of those opaque foundations where all communication happens through the online LOI/application portal or through an "info@" e-mail. I was surprised (and psyched!) when they funded our agency two years in a row, but even when they were funding us they didn't seem to want much communication.
The LOI process is easy and painless so worth taking the chance, but our experience is that they aren't really interested in deeper relationship building.

They focus on basic needs, but don't fund staff salaries which is tough. All agencies that work to meet basic needs rely on quality staff to be successful.
Make your contacts at the foundation less anonymous-- it helps us nonprofit folks tremendously to know we can connect with a real human rather than a do-not-reply e-mail.
They are awesome at keeping their grant reports short and sweet! They also funded us for 2 years in a row, which really helped our program grow.

The TJX Foundation requires an LOI before doing a full application, which is great. However, they claim to not be able to let you know if your LOI is NOT chosen. But they don't post a date by which you should hear if your LOI is chosen. They ALSO make it clear that they don't want you to contact them about the status of your LOI. So...if you have a pending LOI, you just...keep....waiting.

They provide no guidelines of how long you will have to wait to hear back on your LOI and they make it clear they don't want you to contact them. This lack of communication makes it difficult for nonprofits.

If their goal is to string nonprofits along while they make up their minds, they are killin' it.
Post something on your website that says, "We will contact you to invite a full proposal by [XXX date]. If you don't hear from us by then, we were not able to move your application forward at this time."
Requires an LOI first.

It is unfortunate that their online grant system is fraught with bugs and glitches. Their tech support insists the problem is at our end rather than trying to help us fix the problem and access our application. Furthermore, a phone call to the Foundation is futile. You will hear a recording that says, "Due to a high volume of callers, please email your questions to . . ." We are not getting a satisfactory response from their tech support on email. Very frustrating!

We were funded over a year ago. Unless the Foundation fixes its broken links, we will not be able to reapply for funding. I presume the TJX Foundation is accomplishing its current goals.

Fix your website! Please care about your grantees and potential grantees by helping them access your online system instead of denying that there's a problem.
