Island Foundation is such an engaged and friendly foundation. Staff really get to know the organizations they represent and are interested in your work, your outcomes, and want to hear what they can be doing better to help YOU and your organization.
The application process is very straightforward online. Upload a cover letter and narrative and financial information, board list, etc. The longest part for us is simply pulling the narrative proposal together.
Reporting is very easy as well. And I love that in their online form you can either enter text there or attach uploads. We're a large program and it's easier for us to report in a Word Doc. than a character count box on the work they are funding across multiple programs and disciplines.
Positive leader in the field, Gives more than money, Risk taker, Culturally sensitive, Insightful, Friendly, Builds relationships, Likes site visits, "Gets" nonprofits and issues, Openminded, Responsive

NOTHING! Keep up the amazing work.
They KNOW the organizations they fund and even individual board members are very committed to the organizations that the foundation serves. They are on the forefront of research, knowledge, and news about different sectors and the non profit sector. They also are a great organizer at bringing non profits together for professional development and trainings.

Island Foundation is very transparent, communicative, and simple to apply. They have an easy-to-use online system, they communicate deadlines for reports a month before they are due, they answer emails, and when invited to submit a proposal, they direct you on the amount to request. They are very much a part of the community they are in and know their community very well.

Island Foundation has been around a while, funding environmental causes and organizations in their region. They know the issues, the important organizations and people and stay connected.
Island Foundation is doing well. To do even better, help grantees by giving us advice about other funders in the area we know of who fund our type of work, but we don't know how to approach them or haven't had success. You could be a bridge.
Communication - two ways. They solicit feedback on how well they are doing from grantees in the reporting form. I haven't seen that very often, and it seems like they care what grantees think.
