Advice from a Friend

Essex County Community Foundation Incorporated

Dec 13, 2021

Reviewer 5223 - Grant Applicant - applied in 2021

My client has applied at least twice now and denied. The client, physically located in Lowell, serves thousands of people in Lawrence. There is NO support for any organization whose zip code is outside Lawrence, or Essex County, even if they are serving that community. Lowell is only 14 miles away, and thousands of residents from Lawrence come to the client for BASIC NEEDS, needs that clearly aren't being met, or not met sufficiently, within the city limits of Lawrence. But this community foundation is rigidly punitive in adhering to its puny-minded rules about where they will and will not fund. It is disgraceful.

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Bureaucratic, Risk averse
