Provident does request reports every 3 months, which is tedious, however I advise that you be prudent in following through. We are usually granted $5,000 a year and typically ask for $10,000. I have another client who is statewide and we request $25,000 a year and do often receive full funding every year.

Thank God the logic model has been discontinued!

Overall, Provident Bank Foundation is a great funder and gives to many deserving NJ nonprofits. The application is long/detailed. Questions do fluctuate slightly from year to year - to keep you on your toes! It is worthwhile to apply. If nothing else, you will have a tweaked narrative to work with going forward!

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Culturally sensitive, Insightful, "Gets" nonprofits and issues, Responsive

We applied for a $25,000 grant and received $20,000. The ED of the foundation was new last year, having replaced a longstanding ED who retired. Our interaction with the Foundation has been positive. The new ED told us to let her know if we need anything. We were very excited to receive this grant and are happy to be working with the Foundation. We have never received funding from them before.

Pros

Friendly, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues

There is a 2-step process; first an LOI then a full proposal if the LOI is accepted. My experience is that they will fund you if your LOI is accepted, assuming you complete the full proposal as required by the deadline. Take time to get the LOI right.

They used to require a Logic Model but as of 2020 that appears to have gone by the wayside (YEAH).

The application is online with word limits, which are tight but not absolutely dreadful. They do ask a few questions that most don't and I find I have to slice my narrative in unusual ways. They also require their own budget template.

In terms of sustainability, "PBF is interested in continuation strategies that are not contingent solely on the receipt of new external funding." As an organization with practically no earned revenue, I find this question deeply irritating.

While they "advertise" their Major Grant as potentially as high as $25,000, in 2018 we got $10,000 and in 2020 we were invited to apply for $15,000.

They require 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month interim reports and the proposal requires details on what you expect to accomplish in those time frames. Be sure to do the reports in a timely manner. This seems like a lot of work for not a tremendous amount of money.

Be aware that this grantmaker requires a lot but provides a little. While they say they offer "Major Grants" of up to $25,000, do not be surprised when you receive $5,000. Their application requirements are onerous (complex LOI, then full proposal with logic model, evaluation plan, outcomes, budgets, publicity plan, etc., etc._ Then if you get the grant, you must provide an interim and final report.

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Difficult to work with
