Provident does request reports every 3 months, which is tedious, however I advise that you be prudent in following through. We are usually granted $5,000 a year and typically ask for $10,000. I have another client who is statewide and we request $25,000 a year and do often receive full funding every year.
Thank God the logic model has been discontinued!
Overall, Provident Bank Foundation is a great funder and gives to many deserving NJ nonprofits. The application is long/detailed. Questions do fluctuate slightly from year to year - to keep you on your toes! It is worthwhile to apply. If nothing else, you will have a tweaked narrative to work with going forward!

I believe this funder is very successful in supporting worthy causes in our state of New Jersey. The application process is not a walk in the park, but I respect the fact that they ask pertinent questions. PBF shows sincere interest and wants facts before they fund an organization.
Be sure to follow through with the progress reports - even if you are late in doing so. It makes a difference.
PBF delves into every funding request with detailed questions. They also provide a required budget template - which is tedious, but really helps you "put your ducks in a row" and present a solid request/application.

We applied for a $25,000 grant and received $20,000. The ED of the foundation was new last year, having replaced a longstanding ED who retired. Our interaction with the Foundation has been positive. The new ED told us to let her know if we need anything. We were very excited to receive this grant and are happy to be working with the Foundation. We have never received funding from them before.

I am a new ED and am pretty overwhelmed by the reporting process, as we have many grants with similar reporting cycles. Our state funding reporting is onerous. Providing a streamlined reporting process that does not take hours and hours of time would be really wonderful. A regular phone call in place of reports would be even better as we could build the relationship.
I appreciated that this funder seemed to understand the work that we do and value how we serve our community. There seemed to be genuine excitement is supporting our mission. That feels great.

There is a 2-step process; first an LOI then a full proposal if the LOI is accepted. My experience is that they will fund you if your LOI is accepted, assuming you complete the full proposal as required by the deadline. Take time to get the LOI right.
They used to require a Logic Model but as of 2020 that appears to have gone by the wayside (YEAH).
The application is online with word limits, which are tight but not absolutely dreadful. They do ask a few questions that most don't and I find I have to slice my narrative in unusual ways. They also require their own budget template.
In terms of sustainability, "PBF is interested in continuation strategies that are not contingent solely on the receipt of new external funding." As an organization with practically no earned revenue, I find this question deeply irritating.
While they "advertise" their Major Grant as potentially as high as $25,000, in 2018 we got $10,000 and in 2020 we were invited to apply for $15,000.
They require 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month interim reports and the proposal requires details on what you expect to accomplish in those time frames. Be sure to do the reports in a timely manner. This seems like a lot of work for not a tremendous amount of money.

They are fairly communicative - their guideline and deadlines are very clear, they give you good lead time, and appear to be responsive. While I have not done so, my guess is that they would respond to an inquiry call or email.

PLEASE, let us write our own narratives (with some guidelines as to what you want to know) and ask questions if you need more information. The online format is restrictive in ways that are unhelpful (for example, asking for age demographic information in age ranges that we cannot fill and not giving us space to explain the information we do have). Also, can't we just use our own budge rather than your format?
I want a "medium" relationship icon. They have funded us in the past and I expect they will fund us again this year, but their requirements are fairly onerous and their application is more annoying to complete than most.

Be aware that this grantmaker requires a lot but provides a little. While they say they offer "Major Grants" of up to $25,000, do not be surprised when you receive $5,000. Their application requirements are onerous (complex LOI, then full proposal with logic model, evaluation plan, outcomes, budgets, publicity plan, etc., etc._ Then if you get the grant, you must provide an interim and final report.
Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Difficult to work with

Bad
As a corporate foundation, they aim to help the community and also improve their corporate image....all good. But they do not realize the extent of the damage they are doing to the grantseeking community and to their reputation as a result of their onerous grants process.
Consider making it easier for grantseekers to apply. Reduce the application requirements for grants $5,000 and under.
Their guidelines are very clear and on a clear timetable. The program officer is accessible and will offer advice.
