The team at GMA Foundations, which manages the Anna B. Stearns Foundation's grantmaking process, is wonderful

They are funding organizations that support their mission, but their application process doesn't live up to their stated commitment to equity and representational leadership – the high barrier to entry imposed by their application process is more likely to be prohibitive for BIPOC-led organizations (which are likelier to be underfunded and have less administrative capacity for long and onerous applications).
Please consider trying to reduce redundancy in your application process. Your application asks nonprofits to share staff, board and constituents demographics both uploaded in a spreadsheet, and typed into the online application. It asks applicants to describe the population served in three separate questions. It asks applicants to describe the program/project "in terms of the who, what, where, and when" in two separate questions. This makes your application quite long, confusing, and unnecessarily burdensome to complete.
I really appreciate that they use Philanthropy MA's common app materials, which helps lessen the burdens on applicants. And it is clear that they place a high value on equity and intersectionality, even if they have room to improve in those areas. They also have generous character limits that provide plenty of room to respond to every question.

This funder has very little understanding or respect for the burdens they place on grantees relative to the funding they provide. They ask for the same information in multiple places, and each year is like Groundhog day, with current grantees asked to start all over as if they don't know us at all.
Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Culturally incompetent, Bureaucratic

Good
They are responsive to emails and inquiries and you can easily reach a real person.
Bad

Reduce the length and admin burden of your application and reporting process.
