Great people, but definitely a family foundation - in the sense that their funding priorities can change YOY, and there really isn't anything on their website indicating what they want to fund (besides geographic). Don't build them into your budget!

The LOI is blessedly simple and short. If your project/program gets their interest, my experience is that you will enjoy a very nice site visit with the family. But afterwards, you won't much - there is only one staffer. My org tried really hard to cultivate a relationship with the family, but found little success. In that sense I appreciate the professionalism - but it did also leave us a bit in the dark, spending time and energy only to learn their priorities for the new year had changed via an email.
Good
Since it's a family making decisions, I'm sure they are content about what they fund. They seem very thoughtful about their investments, as our site visit was much more rigorous than the LOI. I think they ask the right questions.
Use your website to convey your current funding goals. Let's be honest; every nonprofit wants to get funded. It seems like you'd save us and yourselves a lot of time by just putting it in writing.
There are three Zidell family foundations via one website. The funding priorities of the other two are very clear.
Cutting a check to help a grantee! In my experience they awarded us with more than we asked, which is so rare and special.
