I had an active LOI draft in their grantmaking system. The deadline was published as March 31, 2018. Last night (2/19/18) I received an email saying that I should NOT complete my draft because they'd already given out all of their funds for the fiscal year--about 6 weeks before their application deadline.
We are a 2-person organization and so 100% of the grant writing falls on my shoulders, so it can take a bit longer for me to write LOIs and proposals simply because as an ED, I have so many other things I need to do as well. I've wasted precious hours that could have been used to pursue one of the other three grant opportunities that I put on hold because their deadlines were later. I could have spent that time better serving our at-risk population who critically need our services. I hope that I can secure funding for our program elsewhere so that I never need to apply with this foundation again. If deadlines are meaningless, the integrity of the process is untrustworthy.

When you publish a deadline, make it meaningful. Please don't let people waste their time believing they have until the deadline to submit materials. It's a breach of trust.
