They have always been very responsive when I've had questions and have even visited our site to learn more about us.

Please keep doing what you're doing! It is so valuable.
They do what they say they do (fund capital--it's not a bait-and-switch) and they are big on relationships. I've been funded for 7 consecutive years. They are also very receptive to discussion. One year I was going to ask for a significantly larger amount than usual for a special project and I called them, we discussed it, the President came by to do a site visit, and they funded us. It as a wonderful experience.

I would not expect funding, or even a polite turn-down.

Their website does not seem to focus on the Foundation's philanthropic goals. No data.
I urge you to reconsider the way turn-down letters are written. excerpt: "...we have determined that we are unable to respond favorably to your request. ___ During the review process we must make some very difficult decisions........unable to accommodate everyone regardless of the worthiness of the project ___ We feel your request does not fall within our guidelines" Checking off one of the above paragraphs seems a very unnecessary slight to applicants for funding. Do you not agree that sending one of two separate letters might be better aligned to the values of the Foundation's founders? On the other hand, the prompt reply to our application is sincerely appreciated. Thank you for considering our views.
They fund many organizations. Hope you have better luck than we did.
