Grant Applicant - applied in 2019
Great foundation to work with. The staff is very engaged and responsive, as is the board. They want you to succeed. But they also will hold you accountable for every little piece of your award - so know there's a lot of follow-ups once a grant is received.
The application process is quite tedious. Leave a good two full days to complete the application at best. You'll need to do a cover letter, but then also basically have a whole proposal ready to go for the online form to fill out multiple fields. Be prepared to answer everything from a program timeline, materials, activities, evaluation, sustainability, staff leadership salaries, organizational goals and priorities, organization history, mission, etc. You'll also need a budget. If it's an existing program a budget to actual for the previous year. And you'll need a list of your current and past (2 years) funders as well as planned funding for the year.
The online form also has you go through your audit to break out % of funding for everything from salaries to admin to fundraising and again for % of funding from revenue sources. The issue is their breakout of revenue sources won't match every audit and there's no space for an 'other' category in this area. Just make a note elsewhere on the application if your audit is broken out differently.
I will say, the online application takes a considerable amount of time. Between the additional documents you need to create to upload and the many fields you have to fill out with data from forms you're already uploading, it's time-consuming. Leave yourself more time than you think you will need for this application.

Streamline your online application. Grant writers/managers are stretched thin and if there is a way you can garner the information you want from our uploads, and allow us to upload a separate cover letter and narrative, answering the questions you ask would be great. I understand the character count but a page limit would cover the same thing. And if there is a way to streamline the number of things you want uploaded in separate documents that would be great. Having to have multiple budget, budget to actual, current funders, past funders, perspective funders all as separate uploads, when often those are things we keep in 1 document, adds to more work for organizations.
