If you have a connection to their trustees, you'll have a better chance; however, the barriers to entry are low, so you don't have much to lose by completing the LOI process.

Keep being open and responsive.
Too new with them to have much insight beyond the application process.
The Roy A Hunt Foundation tells you right up front that unless you have a relationship with one of the trustees, you are unlikely to get funded. Given this, they have a very streamlined LOI process that didn't take much time or require original material - perfect for that long shot. We were a match for their funding priorities, but had no known relationships. We were invited to submit a full proposal and it too was short & sweet - all online. Additionally, we missed the deadline and they were forgiving and responsive - now we wait. The communication has been very clear and the staff is responsive.
