As a corporation funding from its headquarters, it is important to have the local branch manager knowledgeable on your organization and aware of the grant request in order to get support up through the management chain. We are in a small town with a single branch so in a larger city, contact with an area or regional manager is helpful.

Good
Our local branch bank seems to be a corporate training ground for their young management candidates. They always seem to be interested in the community so arranging a visit is quite easy, but needs to be periodic as the personnel do change.
Good
They are supporting several local organizations with grants showing their involvement in our small community.
Always provide feedback on the activity the grant supported and especially any promotional materials showing their support. It seems to close the loop that their funding did do something and they were thanked for it. They will remember it when it comes to grants in the following year in terms of their mission of community support.
Divided their grant application and approval process into areas so we feel they are looking at similar requests for support and have an overall plan of allocating their funds to various forms of causes/needs.

Like many corporate funders, getting serious consideration for your request depends heavily on having one of their executives involved with you organization. Once our connection no longer existed, the funding went away.

This bank shows concerns for its community members.
Good
Yes providing assistance for the homeless and other thing that affects communities, make the funder an entity that needs to be in all communities.
Funder should look down to upcoming organizations. Upcoming non profits organizations have strong ties to their community members.
Continue to be open to its members by opening grant opportunities to non profits in communities where funder serves.
Concerns for the communities in which it serves.

The local contact is very accessible and helpful.
Good
We have been funded two years in a row, albeit for much less than we requested, but the funding comes with very few strings attached. There is not much communications after you submit a grant, a check just shows up in the mail.
Perhaps a bit more communications during and after the process.
The funding while small is very broad-based in its focus.

It very difficult to get you questions answer. There is nobody to tell you who reviews the grants, what are the tendencies or review your grant. It seems you have to have someone in the inside or be a large institution that has a lot of visibility.

The program officer was accessible and helpful, but here it is 8 months later and we still haven't been notified whether or not we have received funding. Last we heard, we are under consideration, but pretty much no one is talking to us.

The grant application was like many others. Online, character limited, poor webform to word processing capabilities. It wasn't the greatest process, nor was it the worst.
