Program staff is great, they provide good guidance for what they'll fund, and they take time to learn from their grantees. Plus they show up at events and I see them at events for other nonprofits.

Always get a timely email back.
Good
They have a broad view of their funding priorities, which allows for a really diverse portfolio of grantees. Plus they do MULTI-YEAR GEN OP grants! And they're proud of it! And won't likely switch from that strategy!
If you're a fit, totally talk to a program officer about applying. It's a small staff but they're open.
Learns from their grantees and uses it to shape the next round of funding (but not so dramatically that it leaves you in the lurch). Plus their Special Projects grant is clutch for investments in big projects/new work.

They only fund organizations they have a relationship with--but they are loyal once you get in! I wouldn't send a blind LOI/proposal... try to meet with a program officer first.

They respond to emails in a timely manner, and are happy to help with questions.
Good
They have a few different funding areas, and are very clear in what they are looking for. I appreciate that they focus on helping the person, with no blame (for situations of domestic violence or sex work).
I love that they try to reduce the burden on nonprofits--every grant is on a 2 year cycle, which provides stability. They also commit to continuing support for foundations already in their portfolios.

Our organization has received funding for projects for several years. My experience with the program manager has extremely favorable -- helpful in clarifying the guidelines, processes and make-up of the decision makers.

Please continue your current grant-making processes.
They try hard to be transparent about what they are and are not interested in supporting. If something is not obvious from their printed materials, they are willing to answer questions.
