Invite only, but they will surprise you with things like a mid-year update out of the blue (with no history of this an no warning in the award letter) and no deadline, for small grants. They should consider trust-based philanthropy and not require so much information.
Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Bureaucratic

I think those that run the foundation need to pass the torch. They do not seem to get non-profits anymore. And they don't seem to understand the current economy and why staffing has been difficult at non-profits. Blames workers.
They ask us to report on if we used COD services...I think they should have record of which non-profits use their services if we sign up or attended consulting events. Consulting services feel self-serving.

The last 2 years, this funder has been inviting surprise applications which are not on their typical timeline. While they want to be generous and give extra I think, giving 12 days to submit a grant with non-standard questions is stressful when it's not on our grant calendars. Please be more respectful of our time and give us at least 2 months notice. We are very busy in nonprofit grant-writing. This is especially hard on smaller non-profits and those with less resources, including those made up of people of color.
Generous during the pandemic.

The Athwin Foundation is invitation only and tends to provide repeat funding to past grantees. When there is an opening, they have proven to be very loyal to orgs with whom they have made a commitment.
Gives more than money, Insightful, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues

You are the only non-profit that asks such in-depth questions about the board of directors. Please consider eliminating these questions. Please consider an emailed application process and email communication to save on paper/mailing costs.
Communicates in the spring that we'll be invited to apply in the fall, so we can put it on our grant calendar.
