The funding priorities are now extremely narrow, so I would suggest reaching out to staff before submitting any requests.

We feel that very little respect was shown for our organization and the strong relationship that we used to have. It is not only difficult to lose solid funding with no warning or explanation, but it is disrespectful to cut off communication and essentially move forward with entirely new priorities without, at some point, communicating with former partners, especially those who would not be funded moving forward. We understand priority changes, and we are agile in response to them, but we are disappointed that there was so little respect for our previous relationship and for the unexpected impact on our budget.
After funding half of our previous grant amount in 2016-17, the Grotto Foundation took on a year-long review process of their priorities. During this time, it was very difficult to get any questions answered from staff, and they were extremely quiet about the process. Earlier in 2018, we went to their website and found that grants had been distributed (we were obviously not funded). It was extremely disappointing to find out this way that we were no longer a grantee, especially when we had previously had a nice working relationship with staff, and of course, our budget decisions were based partially on the level of previous funding for the foundation.

The Foundation used to be focused very clearly on the funding initiatives they defined, and there was no wiggle room outside of them. Now that they're on a "strategy refresh hiatus" for who knows how long, we're waiting with bated breath to see where their new focus will land.

The program staff were accessible as we worked through the application, grant award details, and reporting.
Good
They focused very clearly on their identified issues and made strategic investments in good organizations accomplishing strong outcomes.
Limit the time you spend not making grants in the community and defining your "strategic priorities." The needs are great out there, nonprofits are running fast and need your support.
They focused very clearly on their identified issues and made strategic investments in good organizations accomplishing strong outcomes. It's a shame they're pulling their support away to rethink their priorities.
