They don't think of themselves as typical funders; approach them as collaborators. On the plus side, staff are knowledgable, approachable, and many are caring and thoughtful. On the downside, expect micromanagement, needing to jump through many hoops & give much free labor. They seem blissfully unaware of the power dynamic. Occasional moments of tech bro culture.

The 'move fast and break things' approach works even less well in philanthropy than it does in tech.
Invest in relationships more...trust & listen to your grantees and partners. A dash of humility wouldn't hurt.

They don't have an in-depth understanding of the issues they are trying to solve. While some of their grant requirements are well thought out and look at contributing factors, other requirements are arbitrary.
Look at organizations with a proven impact that are addressing root causes and not just offering "band-aid" fixes if your goal is addressing root causes of poverty.
