You must talk to a program officer and be prepared to align exactly with their philosophy of "pulling someone up by the bootstraps" and long-term tracking of clients after an "intervention". The Fund is not open to learning from nonprofits, so you will not be having a discussion of the issue but proving that your program does what they want.

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Culturally incompetent, Risk averse

Talk to the Program Officer and get their support first. Otherwise, forget it. Pay no attention to what they say their priorities are; they seem to fund almost randomly, so you might as well ask, and see. This is a personality based foundation - whether or not you get funding seems to depend largely on who you know, and how much support they will extend to your organization

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Doesn't "get" nonprofits and issues, Difficult to work with, Culturally incompetent, Bureaucratic, Risk averse

The Daniels Fund reinvents it mission frequently-its a moving target with no relevancy or rationale related to real life community issues.

Because they are so huge, EVERYONE is trying to get an audience with them. Their program officers are very capable and knowledgeable, and their board seems to have provided pretty strong guardrails against what the *won't* fund.

Cons

Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Difficult to work with, Culturally incompetent, Bureaucratic, Risk averse
