Reviewer 709 - Grant Applicant - applied in 2017
Definitely helpful to have an "in", but it doesn't seem like that affects the grant outcome too much. Talking to someone at the foundation did help us gain insight into their process though, which is a really frustrating one - the application is hugely time-consuming, but they base their first review on only the abstract.

We do know someone at the foundation, so I don't think I can comment on "cold call" accessibility.
Good
What they do fund is definitely in line with their philanthropic goals - supporting research aimed at bettering the lives of animals.
Split your application into two rounds - submit an abstract and then ask successful applicants to submit a proposal. Creating the proposal takes a huge amount of time, and it just feels like a waste of 20+ hours if all that is reviewed is the abstract. Why not split it up and save applicants the time, if their abstract is not a good match for Morris?
