I no longer would not recommend approaching this funder. VSUW had a heart for the nonprofit community - this all changed 10 years ago. Each year, less money was awarded to successful (according to the logical model outcomes) programs. VSUW hired a grant manager and began to compete with nonprofits. Funding awards dollars sparse, guidelines were narrow, and funds given were intricately ties to their project grants. Oh, did I say they moved from a humble office building to a huge expensive office space that was typically empty. What a waste of money and a loss for those we all serve in our communities.
Inadvertently exerts negative influence in the field, Bureaucratic

Not accessible if you want to have a program funded.

I would definitely tour their offices and ask about their current awards to other programs. I wouldn’t donate money unless you want it to pay for their rent.
Get back to helping nonprofits help people and stop seeking grant funds.
Take them off your list.

I suggest a trusted colleague should get involved in as many ways as possible where you are giving to them before you consider asking them to give to you.

They are good about returning calls, but you won't always get the information you need.

They have chosen such lofty countywide goals - ending homelessness, ending hunger, ensuring kids succeed, breaking the cycle of poverty - that it's difficult to know exactly where and how they are moving the dial.
The application and reporting processes are particularly onerous to the point that the ROI on actually getting a grant is questionable. I advise them to get with a group of long-time grantees and listen to their suggestions about making the process more reasonable and less burdensome to the community.
Grantees are expected to participate in efforts to promote and advance the funder's own fundraising campaign.
This funder is clear about stating their goals.
