Boeing Seattle is a complete joke.

Dirty money.

Puget Sound leadership is a total disaster and the Seattle senior manager possesses bad judgement. At the 2019 STEM Summit she was bragging about Boeing's large compensation package - her style is loud and aggressive - we overheard her and just cringed. This was tone deaf and in poor taste - 346 people are DEAD. Every single day, Boeing is in the headlines news for the two Max crashes that claimed many innocent lives, whistleblower complaints, insults about the FAA, calls for the CEO to be fired...and this manager is talking about how much money management makes?

Acccessibility ok, on their timetable.

It's dirty money. Our community peers feel kind of gross - but fundraising is hard and we need money to pay the bills.
Practice some disctretion, manager....
The blond 30 something education program officer is very professional and smart.

Boeing funds our organization once in a while. Conservative funder. Just tell them what they want to hear (eg. "Boeing is great!") Nod a lot and you'll be fine.

They can't seem to articulate what they are trying to achieve. The program guidelines are a mish mash of funder speak.
Take a page from Alaska Air community giving - now that is a great company doing good work.

Working with Boeing corporate giving is a miserable experience. Their techonology platforms are terrible, the logo process is a headache and their program officers (while nice) have limited epxerience. The Seattle management is sour and unpleasant.

Just ok. I'm trying to find something nice to say.....My parents worked on the 777 program and I grew up with positive feelings about the company. I now have a nonprofit job and I cringe when I think about the current state of the company.
Bad
Management does not inspire faith. Loud, overbearing, and disrespectful.
Improve your grantmaking timeline and technology platforms. Be nicer to nonprofit applicants - we can barely make a living wage.
We appreciate the money but it's a bad experience start to finish.

If you "partner" with Boeing, prepared for a quid pro quo relationship. Beware the Boeing check comes with strings attached. They will expect lots of verbal stage recognition, podium time for their bald white executives to wax on about their community giving (diminished as it is), and the occasional favor in Olympia. Once in a while, we education and workforce Boeing grantees will get an email to "invite" us to "share" with elected officials during the Washington State legislative session about the generosity of Mother Boeing.
Chronicle of Philanthropy and Seattle TImes, reach out to us, we kept all those email "invitations" as proof of this shady practice. They will deny it, obviously.
My nonprofit organization partners with Starbucks, US Bank, Bank of America, Nordstrom, REI, Costco and other companies. Yes, we have done the usual logo, check presentations and mini product placements and so on - pretty reasonable all in all. We have NEVER, ever, been "invited" to speak about how great they are to help with their tax burdens.

Boeing is accessible when it wants to be, usually when they need you to do something for them. Unpleasant funder but it is hard to say no to them. We need grants and sponsorship dollars to pay for programs in our communities.
Bad
It has changed a lot in recent years. They are defensive about everything and so don't ask. They will yell at you.
The whole world is not against you.
Eyes wide open guys, know what you're getting into. Boeing is an conservative old white boys club. Change is not happening anytime soon. If you take the check. Make peace with it. (I'm a white dude with 16 years in the nonprofit development sector.)
Every dollar counts when we need to pay for programs....

There was a time that Boeing was an important, thoughtful, and effective grantmaker in Seattle. As dollars have been re-directed to Chicago, Charleston, and other markets, it has become irrelevant. Its CSR staff is mixed at best - some good program officers, some bad ones, and some deeply inexperienced ones. This review is about the local Seattle management.
Funder retaliation is a real thing and many leaders in the community don't speak up about the abusive behavior of the current Seattle senior manager out of fear. (This aggression has gone on for years and years.) She is a middle aged white woman who has an aggressive, loud, and blustery Trumpian-style. She was accusatory and unpleasant to work with as a community investor and now manager.
A number of us nonprofit leaders got together for drinks recently and decided to take collective action and speak up through this platform.

The Seattle grantmaking is a hot mess under the current management. She is defensive if you inquire about strategy changes and in some cases lie - she will not be challenged during a partner meeting or in public settings.
Treat your partners with more dignity and respect. Be aware of your priviledge and stop the racist comments and behavior.
The Seattle manager does not represent Boeing in a professional light. It's embarrasing to witness and experience.
The program officers are, for the most part, fairly responsive and doing their best under what seems to be stressful management conditions. It is apparent that they need to run every single decision through the Seattle manager and so it takes a week to a month to get things resolved.

You will get a grant if you suck up to the senior manager.
Replace Puget Sound senior manager (heavy set 40-something white woman). She is disrespectful and mean to community partners. She accused our organization of falsifying documents, budget, and outcomes. She embarassed our junior colleague at a community event. The most racist grantmaker in the Seattle region, by far. Tone deaf, culturally incompetent, and actually refers to herself as "the mean one." Why is she representing such a good American company?
Mean and aggressive. Management needs to dismiss her for unprofessional, unkind behavior in the nonprofit community.
The community investors doing the real work are earnest. They are working under terrible conditions but treat their grantees in a professional manner.
