This foundation is very hands-on and liked to be included in proposal development. Definitely call them and even see if you can schedule a meeting before you begin to work on your LOI.

Good
Very accessible and open to discussing any challenges you might be facing.
Good
I appreciate their innovative nature and willing to take risks and make large gifts on projects that may not always be successful. Their staff is very knowledgeable about health and human services issues in the greater Los Angeles area.
They are always willing to chat and provide feedback.

The grant process is a bit slow (12 months between our initial conversation and grant award) but well worth it for the large, innovative projects that UniHealth funds. We have now received three grants from this Foundation -- all of which allowed us to take risks and explore new initiatives for our organization. Program staff is extremely helpful and always willing to answer questions or offer advice -- they see themselves as true partners with their grantees and this really shines through!
