Schedule a meeting as early as you can in the process, so that you can follow up. Allow plenty of time for the online application, as it can take awhile to complete.

United way is very clear about their focus on racial equity, and is leading the way in this effort in our area.
I think some of the questions on the online application could be combined. Also, the section on goals/outcomes /measures is not so clear. It would be easier not to have to separate outcomes and measures.
as mentioned above, focus on equity.

Approachable and creative.
We appreciate being able forward non-United Way grants to describe our programs, philosophy etc. It saved us so much time and provided a much richer picture of what we do.

Fill it out. The Opportunity Grant is non-intimidating and easy to complete. If unsure of the best fit, reach out to a staff member before applying. They are very accessible.

United Way is really "thinking outside the box" in terms of funding agencies and projects that address the root causes of poverty and inequality, not just traditional social service organizations. I really appreciate this high-level thinking.
I really appreciate how accessible staff are and the attention paid to making small grants simple for grantees. The change to allowing us to have a short meeting with a staff member rather than writing a lengthy report at the end is *huge!* It saves everyone time and helps us have a two way conversation about how our project fits into their long term goals.
