It is best to meet with a representative prior to beginning your application process. This helps with understanding of what you are applying for, what you will need when applying, and how to access the application. It really does simplify the process.
Both representatives that assisted my organization were very helpful. As we continued the process, we were assigned a person to transcribe our grant; when I say this was helpful…that is putting it lightly. This alleviated a lot of stress and also brought to light the voids, and other important areas of our non profit that needed to be strengthened. Thank you United Way.

Pros

Culturally sensitive, Insightful, Friendly, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues, Openminded, Responsive

The Washtenaw County United Way staff were so friendly, helpful, understanding, and patient from the pre-application interview, through my submission of the grant proposal. I written several grant proposals, and this one was short and to the point. But, of course, there always seem to be bumps along the way. My biggest one was clicking on the “Upload a File” button, and getting no response whatsoever. The WCUW staff kindly let me e-mail the files to them. They uploaded the files, and submitted my application for me! I was so grateful to them!

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Gives more than money, Culturally sensitive, Insightful, Friendly, Builds relationships, "Gets" nonprofits and issues, Openminded, Responsive

UWWC's grant process is the easier, yet most comprehensive, process that I've experienced as a grant writer in Washtenaw County. The application is not easy, but thoughtful, and the questions are straightforward and relevant. Continue asking for feedback on the process because it absolutely has helped.
