The Foundation seeks to improve the lives of economically-disadvantaged children, youth, and families in the nine-county Twin Cities metro area.
• Youth Programs: The Foundation supports efforts to assist young people in their transition to adulthood. This includes: Summer Camp Scholarships, which are made to education, human service, and other nonprof-it organizations that work with economically disadvantaged children and families; Pohlad Scholars, which provides college scholarships to Twin Cities area high school graduates; and Youth Advancement, which focuses on youth ages 16-24 that are disconnected from education and employment.
• Community Programs: These grants are intended to be one-time investments based on improving nonprofit capacity to serve our community, including: Challenge Grants, which strengthen the long-term sustainabili-ty of select organizations in the Twin Cities; Large Capital Grants, which fund projects necessary to assist in meeting an important community need; and Small Capital Grants for specific projects to help organizations serve more people and/or be more effective in implementing their core strategies.
• North Minneapolis Initiative: Grants are awarded to programs that support north Minneapolis youth and families living in poverty. Improving housing, revitalizing commercial corridors and increasing youth employ-ment opportunities are the primary goals of these grants. Applications are accepted by invitation only.

Review the foundation guidelines and try to call/meet with the program officer prior to submitting a request. They are very open to having an initial conversation about organizational fit with their priorities. They are currently going through strategic planning so their priorities may change. Most recently, they have been focusing on youth.

The online proposal was clear. I had a few technical glitches with the website. Staff were very responsive and helpful. My sense of the current grant cycle and past funding is that Pohlad has a genuine interest in supporting the community. Their focus areas are clear and straightforward.

Thank you for your review and feedback on our online grants management system. We have had to work out some kinks in the past - but are definitely available for technical assistance when working through an online application. We will also be looking for ways to streamline applications in 2018 - so stay tuned!
