Interests/Priorities

The Hugh J. Andersen Foundation is particularly interested in asset-based programs created, initiated, supported or staffed by the constituency for whom benefits are sought. This type of effort builds upon and further develops individ-ual and community capacities. These programs or projects are internally motivated and organized, rather than need-based, service-oriented systems brought in and directed by non-constituents.

The Foundation is particularly interested in direct service programs:
• Serving children and youth, especially those whom provide personal development activities.
• Providing various social support services to the community at large.
• Providing access to health-related services and information.
• Providing educational opportunities and enrichment to the general community.

The Foundation will only consider the following types of programs and organizations if services are provided in the St. Croix Valley, Minnesota:
• Special projects or programs in public schools.
• Programs for individuals with developmental or physical disabilities.
• Programs for seniors.
• Public and/or civic projects and activities.

The Foundation has a wide-variety of interest areas, but likes projects/programs focused on the east metro. Connect with program officer before applying to ensure fit. They accept MN Common Grant proposal format, but also have their own cover sheet and application checklist/attachments. Submit early - they are in Bayport, MN.

Pros

Positive leader in the field, Friendly, Builds relationships, Responsive

The current Philanthropy Director is very accessible. Use the opportunity to talk with the Foundation, but ALWAYS link your idea to the actual geographic service area. (They only fund in St. Paul IF the service is unduplicated in the St. Croix Valley.) Try not to put too much of a stretch on this!

Pros

Friendly, Builds relationships
