Good
The Foundation is very accessible and takes the time to offer feedback on potential requests. If an organization has any questions about the funding process, the Executive Director is easy to get ahold of, provides answers in a timely manner, and may even offer suggestions to help make your application stronger.
Good
The Foundation wants to help applicants succeed. The Foundation's communication and openness with potential applicant organizations exceeds that of many other Foundations with whom we've had contact.

Study their past grants on their IRS 990's to get a feel for the kinds of projects they prefer, and at what funding level. A meeting with the Executive Director also is a good idea.

Their Executive Director is one of the best Foundation leaders in the QC - there is no need to feel stressed. His relaxed approach and deep interest in the nonprofit world shines through - he is not like old school funders who expect you to be in a shirt and tie - he recognizes the power dynamic but names it and moves on.

The foundation is very responsive and committed to the local community. I recommend meeting with the Executive Director at least twice annually to hear about initiatives and update them on your progress. They are incredible accessible and happy to meet and talk through your needs and how they might align with the funding opportunities.

Continue to be available in the community, open to meeting and seeking innovative ideas. Also continue to commit funds to the operational costs of the agencies addressing your primary issues.
The Day Foundation had a geographical focus in RI but is open to other local QC initiatives. However, you must meet with them to talk through these things. Your time would be well spent ensuring the relationship is mutually beneficial.
Engages with the community. They ( the Exec Director) is at many tables and aware of current needs and trends as well as the partners who should be at the table. He is excellent at convening groups and leveraging relationships.

The Executive Director is knowledgeable, approachable, and ethical. He is very willing to be helpful with the granting process and you can feel free to call or meet with him if you have any questions. The grant process itself is clear cut and provides sufficient room for detail. I would suggest that the community need be clearly expressed and supported by community based data. The plan to address the need should have the same level of clarity and support.
