I am a newbie to foundationland. I didn't know the application process. I didn't even know there *was* an application process.
The WFF Executive Director was approachable and invested. She immediately understood our mission, and even helped me crystallize some things in my head.
I'd recommend trying to meet with someone from the family, if possible, or any of their amazingly available staff.

I tend to think foundations are full of busy people who don't want to worry about the ins and outs of day-to-day issues. I think that's probably incorrect. Everyone at WFF is passionate about what they fund. They want to hear how things are going.

WFF has been leaning hard into racial equity. It comes up in the training programs they offer and is a major part of the application. They are thinking about the problem holistically and it just warms my cold black heart.
I'd like a little more clarity on the role of the program managers.

Thank you for not only caring about the good work nonprofits do in our community, but caring about the people who make up these nonprofits as well.
This Foundation is one of the most accessible foundations I have ever worked with. They are available for personal meetings, and are willing to create pathways for applicants whose first language is not English, or who face literacy challenges and wish to apply in mediums other than a formal, written application.

I would suggest a thorough read-through of the information provided on their website. They have taken the time to put together a clear and easy to manage site, that will most likely answer all of your questions. Just know that the culture of the individuals involved in this Foundation is one of collaboration. They want you to succeed and will help those unfamiliar with the process to do so.

The Foundation has gone above and beyond my needs, and have been there every step of the way with assistance. My relationship with certain members of the Foundation is unique. They are the most accessible group that I've ever dealt with and have actually passed on information that has helped me navigate the funding world in general.

They have consistently championed organizations like ours, grass roots, visionary organizations that invest in helping develop the awareness of the community. While considering the physical needs of neighborhoods, they also invest in building leaders in communities that can assist with transforming lives on a higher level.
It seems one of the major strengths this funder possesses, is being able to identify organizations that have integrity, that are driven to improve their surroundings with their services, and can have the most impact in marginalized communities. I would advise that they consider capacity building assistance again, and direct that assistance towards those organizations.
This funder sees the visions easily, and quickly trusts that when properly executed, your efforts will result in good. They do not impose an agenda on the organizations they help. If you lay out your plan, and its a plan that helps people, they will most likely support you, so be ready.
There are many things this funder does well, but ultimately, making the application process easy is something they do better than most.
