They make themselves very accessible via phone as well as via community forums (i.e. Meet the Funders events). Review their web site, because they're good about posting recent learnings, trends, and their strategy.

They are leading efforts to look at organizations as a whole, rather than individual programs. As a result, many of their grants are for unrestricted support.

They actually listen. That doesn't mean they don't have their own agenda. But they really do believe that nonprofits know what they're talking about, especially when it comes to their own organizations. So think carefully about what you really need because they will actually listn.

In terms of helping people and nonprofits on the streets, they are. They also are trying to move other foundations towards equity funding and unrestricted funding but I don't know if they are making any progress on that.

no
Is there a question you'd like this funder to answer?
Maybe fund other foundations less.
Is there anything else that'd be useful for others to know to understand this funder?
I've heard them say some negative things about another grantee but then say they also do important work and continue to fund them. So I like that you don't seem to need to be perfect.

Call them and ask if you are a good fit. Even though your organizational budget is $700,000, they will only consider you for a "small" grant ($25,000). They won't fund you unless you've been around awhile and unless you have a bunch of other funders. But when they do fund you, they will give you general support for multiple years and will be polite, helpful, and accessible to you during and after your grant.
Pros
Worth the time to pitch, Repeat funding, Builds relationships
