As with most grant processes, smaller agencies without access to professional grant writers will struggle to ensure all foals are met.

Mary's Pence Executive Director, Grants Manager (and grantee webinar leaders) are accessible; more so than any other funder of our small grassroots non-profit that we've experienced.
Good
Mary's Pence excels at accomplishing their core goals of women's empowerment and addressing women's social justice issues, maximally inclusive of great diversity of grantees, and their women-led initiatives that benefit their communities.
When it becomes possible again, I hope Mary's Pence will resume their annual grantees retreat, which was informative, educational, relational, healing and so productive in supporting grantees and their success in funded projects.
Mary's Pence knows their grantees, and from the beginning are interested and active partners. There is a clear experience of solidarity with the projects they support.

They provided support and guidance to us. They have been very supportive.
They are small foundation with limited funds. It would be great if they can raise more funds to give to the grantees.
They are a small funder that provides funding to social justice groups and organization that are led by women that do not have access to large foundations.
Outreach and always asking for feedback to improve their application process and support from the grantees.

The Mary's Pence Foundation encourages and desires regular contact with potential grantees and current grantees throughout the cycle. They were super flexible in their funding during the pandemic and were open to program adaptation.

This funder focus's on women issues and women's leadership. They are very successful in accomplishing this goal.
To increase the amount of funds they give out and make it multi-year if possible.
This is a national funder so some of the local groups in Minneapolis may not know who they are. So getting their name out there locally would be great.
Communications and making the applicant very comfortable.

Very accessible, ready to answer any questions, open and easy to speak to.
I advice the grantees to call the foundation before you apply.
They understand that grassroots, smaller non profits leaders have v little time on their hand and are often wearing all the hats.

I think the foundation should continue to nurture leadership among women And should start micro financing cottage industries for services within the USA for women. The spectrum of US economy is changing, tons of cooperatives have mushroomed in the cities but they r struggling for funding . Even if they support the non profits to incubate the coops and create funding for incubation it would be awesome.
The foundation is very non political and geared towards doing lot of good unlike foundations those who discriminate, this place is where one can find genuine help for genuine work.
Foundation helps grassroots smaller non profits, they have an excellent kind staff, are progressive, think out of the box and are more like mentors. I was actually surprised that they approved more then was asked for the grant, did not realize it was a mistake but it helped us to buy the machines for the cooperative which otherwise we could not have.

Thank you for your comment. We offer a webinar about Mary's Pence Grants where we describe how to apply, our grants criteria, and our review process twice each year. These are offered two months before our grant due dates (February 1 and August 1). We announce the webinar date and time on our website and social media accounts. It is a great way to learn more about how our process works.
