Looking at their website it is pretty clear what each of the funding categories are intended for with examples and other information.
I do enjoy speaking on the phone or in person with the Executive Director who is very encouraging and makes great suggestions about what way to go about requesting the funds. The entire staff is very personable.

This foundation is all about getting the funds to nonprofits who do good work and need financial support from multiple sources. SCF staff understands how difficult it is to sustain our organizations, do their best to offer funding for what is needed by us the most and offer free workshops all year long to increase our capacity to serve our diverse communities
I know it is very difficult to get donations in our area so I guess to keep trying to bring more philanthropic partners to the Foundation so you can continue your good work of getting it out into the communities.
For any would-be donors out there, consider Solano Community Foundation as an excellent organization to contribute to.
The workshops are excellent!

The process for applying for funding through this foundation is fairly simple. Make sure you meet the qualifications, completely fill out the application, and cross your fingers! If selected, make sure you fill out and submit the post-grantee paperwork so that you may have the opportunity to apply in the future.

I have specifically applied to the Wong Music Mini Grant as it relates to my subject field and needs for my program. According to their mission, this grant program is absolutely accomplishing its current philanthropic goals.
I don't have any advice to give... Working with the Solano Community Foundation has been my first attempt at writing grant requests. The experience has been fairly simple, compared to things I have heard about other grants, and I have been pleased with the overall results.
The requirements for funding and deadlines that must be met are communicated very clearly. There is no question as to qualifications that must be met, and I appreciate the specific goals of this grant program.

If you're not approved the first time - try again. Also be willing to talk with someone and ask what you can do differently next time to earn approval. They are honest and helpful.

It is best to type your responses to the application questions in a word document because the boxes on the form do not expand. Type concise responses to questions. This will make it easier to copy and past your answers onto the application form. If you require additional space, I would suggest attaching a separate Appendix. They are truly committed to serving the community, supporting nonprofits and making a difference. The entire application form is only 3 pages. Go for it!

The Solano Community Foundation clearly wants to reduce poverty and impact the community. My experience is that they are working very hard to do exactly that.
