The grant application is similar to the Colorado Common Grant. There is enough character space for reasonable responses. There is not a focus on DEI, which is a bonus. The staff are very nice and you should probably give them a call before you apply.

Excellent. I'm always able to get ahold of [staff] when I need to.
Good
I think they are particular about who they work with so they can accomplish their goals through the work of nonprofits.
Thank you for not changing your funding focus to the current trends happening in our culture- DEI, LGTBQ, emergency assistance to those who won't work, homelessness, etc... It's really good to have a funder help with initiatives that put people back to work so they can be self-sufficient.
So friendly and very low maintenance. Meaning- the application is reasonable, the communication with funders is adequate, and the reporting is not complicated.

Thanks for responding with feedback. We encourage folks to set up a call, email us and/or simply call us to discuss their ideas. Sometimes it takes a few conversations to determine whether there is a mission-aligned mutual match.

Be sure to call the Program Officer prior to applying. She has great advice and can tell you if your organization/application will be a good match and give tips for how to focus your proposal for the strongest presentation.

The Program Officer is wonderful!
Good
We would love to host a site visit before/during/after our grant proposal has been submitted.
Make sure you are a "fit" before you apply to save yourself and them time. The application is thorough and takes time to complete well. Reporting is also simple enough. It's nice to have a funder who doesn't require "high maintenance" to receive or report on funding!
They have always been supportive while at the same time not having unrealistic expectations with reporting.

thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to us, it's really helpful as we continue to find ways to be more effective. your site visit idea might be more achievable with zoom, as site visits are always a nice way to really understand the program details and challenges beyond what the proposal discusses.

Absolutely set up a conversation to discuss the project. You can set up a 15-minute conversation online so there's no worry about playing phone tag.

I've always found them incredibly responsive. I've also made a point of contacting them when things aren't going as planned and they've been helpful and supportive.
Good
They have narrowed their focus in recent years and their investment in employment and supportive services to help low-income/difficult to employ populations find work, build careers, and engage in entrepreneurism has been impressive.
N/A
They are exploring program related investments, and are open to different approaches, which I find very exciting.
