This is our first time working with NextFifty. We have been impressed with the support and training they offer. Over the year We have been with them updated with some of our goals and accomplishments, with short storie sand pictures. And If we had issue or concerned we could bring them up in our training sessions and zoom meetings.

NextFifty is an excellent funding partner that communicates well and treats their grantees with dignity. They are among the most forward thinking grantors we work with - they have made changes like shifting to oral reporting and simplifying the grant application process.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to know that our team has been responsive and that you have appreciated recent changes made to the grant application and reporting processes. Thanks also for your feedback regarding accessing the grantee login from the website. The buttons taking grantees to the portal were disabled when our most recent application process closed. We'll work on ways to make this easier in the future. In the meantime, you will receive an email with a link to access the grantee portal whenever we need updates or other information from you, so please check your email and let us know if you need assistance.

Communicate with this funder often as the website guidelines might not always be up to date. Funder is very responsive and willing to work with the potential grantee to find a workable solution. In the application, be as thorough as possible, include in-depth details, and make sure to quantify all populations that will be impacted by the funding.

I think this funder makes and honest effort to meet its current philanthropic goals and to make an impact on a particular population.
Changes to funding opportunities are made too frequently, seem arbitrary and these changes are not communicated well. Plans to apply for funding, such as the Flexible Funding, can take our organization up to a year. When this funding opened for applications, everything we had worked on in the last few months had to be redone to meet the new requirements. Please keep in mind the time invested by potential applicants when making changes to funding requirements.
Be sure to thoroughly understand the mission of the this organization, the narrow population they aim to impact, and the cultural changes they are trying to make regarding older adults.
Working with this foundation is a very positive experience. They are not afraid to provide large grants or to consider funding ideas that may not fit exactly into their parameters.

Thanks for taking the time to write this review. We’re glad to hear that you had a positive experience working with our team. Our intention is to be responsive and support applicants in submitting successful applications. We also hear your concerns about the frequency with which funding opportunities and requirements have changed during the past couple of years! Some of these changes have been made in response to feedback from grantees about what they need. Others have been in response to the work we are doing on updating our longer-term funding strategy. Once we’ve shared and implemented this new strategy, we anticipate less frequent changes to funding opportunities and requirements. Thanks again for letting us know what worked well for you and where we can improve!

Talk to Next50 before making decision to apply. They are very helpful in clarifying their priorities. The Flexible Support program sounds awesome and very worth exploring.

Have had one interchange and can think of no suggestions for improvement.
This funder appears accessible, a welcome change from other foundations where everything is on-line except enough information to know whether to apply or not.

We appreciate you taking time to write a review. You are right, we encourage interested applicants to talk to us prior to submitting an application. While not required, we have found these conversations to be an opportunity for learning, relationship building, and ensuring alignment. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any additional questions or would like to discuss further your organization's work with older adults. Thank you again.

I think NextFifty Initiative fills a niche that is very needed. I have the sense that there is more opportunity for funds than maybe I dared to apply for. I think they are cutting edge. Think big! Don't be too shy.

NextFifty is innovative and open-minded. I think they welcome hearing from you!
Think big. Be conscientious about your data, but don't be shy to ask for what you want versus just what you need.
Representing rural America, it is hard to find sources for grants. The non-profits in rural areas are small, but that makes them that much more important and needed. I think NextFifty recognizes that, but it is daunting to see how much money they have given certain organizations when small nonprofits struggle in rural areas to get the services we need.
I was impressed with the follow up on the grant awards. The person connection. In many cases, a funder allocates a grant and then requests a report, but there isn't any opportunity to actually connect meaningfully. I think NextFifty Initiative tries to do that.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, please do not be shy! Both in terms of reaching out directly and requesting the funding that you believe you need. Also, you are right--we do welcome hearing from potential applicants, grantees, and community members and thoroughly enjoy these opportunities for connection. Thank you for telling us how it feels to see some organizations receiving more funding than others. We do have an interest in funding rural organizations and we'll continue our own education about and outreach to rural areas.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are always happy to support mission-aligned organizations but also will remain open to funding organizations who do not have a mission focused on older adults. Details are important to us and we are also learning to be more flexible in our funding and processes. We recommend contacting us with any questions or to speak with a Program Officer. Our email is [email protected] and we can be reached by phone at 303-547-1800. Thank you again for the feedback.

Next Fifty Initiative is not only an incredible organization for the work they are doing, but the support they have provided to Steamboat Creates has helped us to thrive during two of the most challenging years of our organization's history (due to COVID).
We highly recommend working with Next Fifty Initiative. They are quick to respond, walk you through the process and reporting and are a pleasure to work with!!!

Their webinars help contextualize the issues of prejudice for those over fifty. Our constituency is over 80% over fifty years old. Next Fifty's conversations around hiring, language and communication are tools we currently use and will continue to use well into the future.

Thank you for the feedback. We’re sorry you had a negative experience with us. We acknowledge that philanthropy has its flaws and, while we are working to address these flaws in some meaningful ways, we don’t get it right all the time. We value learning and are committed to continually learning from our grantees and others about how we can improve. We would be grateful to learn more about what led to your negative experience. There are two ways for you to do this. You can contact us by emailing [email protected] or by calling 303-547-1800 and we will get back to you to listen and learn from you. If you would prefer an anonymous option, you can write another review on GrantAdvisor and share more details about your experience and ideas for improvement. If you are willing to provide this information through either of these avenues, then we will discuss your feedback as a team and do what we can to improve. Thank you again for your candid feedback and taking the time to write a review.
